CAUSE Director of Development Job Description

The Central Coast Alliance United for a Sustainable Economy (CAUSE) is a non-profit social justice organization. Our mission is to build grassroots power to realize social, economic and environmental justice for the people of the VenturaSanta Barbara counties region through policy research, leadership development, organizing, and advocacy.  CAUSE’s vision is that together we can create a global community where we all contribute to, and benefit from, a sustainable economy that is just, prosperous and environmentally healthy.

The Position

The CAUSE Director of Development is employed by CAUSE under the direct supervision the Executive Director. The Director of Development is responsible for the implementation of all donor development and special event activities outlined in the CAUSE Fund Development Plan. The Director of Development conducts his or her work in collaboration with the CAUSE Executive Director, board of directors, management, administrative and program staff, and key volunteers. The primary responsibility of the position is the cultivation and stewardship of current and prospective donors, with an emphasis on donors of major gifts. Other duties include the coordination of all donor development and fundraising events, the coordination of three to four direct mail solicitations per year; supervising clerical staff in the maintenance of the donor data base and timely generation of donor thank you letters; and assisting volunteers and other professional staff toward the completion of their fund raising commitments. The Director of Development also provides staff support to the CAUSE Board of Director’s Fund Development Committee and Special Events Committee, and may include, to a limited degree, the generation of communications materials and foundation grant development.

·         Relationships. CAUSE’s fundraising efforts center around building relationships, solidarity and trust

·         Leadership. CAUSE encourages and provides opportunities for volunteers to take leadership roles in fundraising activities.

·         Ownership. Fundraising is reflective of CAUSE’s social, economic and environmental justice mission, providing opportunities for everyone to participate and give.

·         Self-determination in fundraising. Funds will allow CAUSE to be a leader in creating a sustainable economy and to respond to emerging community issues.

Qualifications 

·         Bachelor degree in related field highly desirable. Coursework in fundraising, marketing, public relations or, communications field.

·         Minimum of two years of donor and special events fundraising experience with a non-profit organization.

·         Must have excellent speaking and writing skills.

·         Bilingual in Spanish and English not required, however highly preferred.

·         Candidate must be self- motivated and passionate about economic and social justice.

·         Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Knowledge in donor data base systems, such a Donor Director

·         Availability to work evenings and weekends as required.

·         The position requires local travel and therefore requires proof of valid California driver’s license, automobile insurance and reliable transportation.

Terms of Employment

SALARY: $58,000 - $65,000/Annually. Benefits after three months of employment include health, dental, and vision insurance, generous holidays, and paid sick and vacation days.
