Job Description

The Central Coast Alliance United for a Sustainable Economy (CAUSE) is a community planning and public policy research center. CAUSE’s mission is to promote economic and social justice for working people in the Central Coast region through policy advocacy, research, organizing, leadership development and community building.
 

The Position

The CAUSE Communications Coordinator is employed by CAUSE under the direct supervision of the Executive Director. The Communications Coordinator is responsible for the following: The position is responsible for the implementation of 1.) community relations, 2.) media relations, and 3.) general public relations/outreach programs and campaigns. With minimal direction, the Communications Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating communications and outreach for community organizing, public relations and fund development campaigns, including the design, preparation, marketing and/or oversight of public information materials. Duties include coordinating outreach to the media (including assisting board members and program staff in their interaction to the media); public presentations; overseeing the development of the organization’s website and printed and online newsletter; overseeing production of all outreach materials, news releases and multi-media presentations; responding to requests for information; functioning as alternate CAUSE spokesperson; managing information dissemination at community events; developing public relations and media outreach for all programs, campaigns and/or crisis situations; and performing other related duties as required.
 

Qualifications 

Candidate must have a strong commitment to CAUSE’s social, economic and environmental justice mission. Bachelor degree in public relations (PR), marketing, communications, or related fields, and a minimum of two years of varied PR experience is required.  Knowledge of aspects of PR including PR principals, planning, strategies, and activities is required. Candidate must be a self-motivated and focused PR practitioner, with excellent writing and public speaking skills. Bilingual in English and Spanish is desirable. General knowledge of Internet web communications, photography and In Design desktop publishing system required. Job involves working some evenings and weekends. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint is required. Valid California driver’s license and auto insurance required. Experience in social marketing and community or labor organizing in a PR capacity is a plus.
 

Compensation 

SALARY: $38,000 - $45,000/Annually. Benefits after three months of employment include health, dental, vision, sick and vacation days.
