shared prosperity gubernatorial forum: elevating the voices of California's families

In an effort to lift up community values and the idea of shared prosperity in this year’s California governor’s race, CAUSE is working with sister organizations from throughout the region and state, to bring to Ventura County a forum with the two candidates for governor, Jerry Brown and Meg Whitman. The 2010 California Shared Prosperity Forum is scheduled for Saturday, August 7th at Pacifica High School in Oxnard, and will also include as our keynote speaker, the honorable John Perez, Speaker of the State Assembly.

The gubernatorial forum portion of the event, which will focus on the candidates hearing and responding to the stories and concerns of California families, will follow a morning of non-partisan voter engagement and issues training for over 400 community leaders from around the state. We are expecting over 1,500 in attendance for the gubernatorial forum program. Attendance is by invitation only and only through participating organizations, including CAUSE, California Federation of Teachers, Congress of California Seniors, California Partnership, National Women’s Political Caucus, Black American Political Association of California, Center for Community Change and others.

If you are interested in participating in this important community effort please contact Eduardo Castro at CAUSE at (805) 658-0810.  Attendance at this forum is by invitation only for CAUSE partner organizations.  The 2010 California Shared Prosperity Forum is being modeled after the 2007 Iowa Heartland Presidential Forum organized by the Center for Community Change.
